supehero movie

Forget the borrowed tales; Children of Captain Africa, premiering on TNT Africa this October, illuminates the powerful, homegrown superhero narratives that have long existed across the continent. This documentary celebrates the innovators – the writers, illustrators, and publishers – who built vibrant mythologies blending ancestral wisdom with modern grit.

The film pays special tribute to pioneers like Ghanaian Captain Africa from the 1980s. Directors Xavier Fournier and Frédéric Ralière produced a journey that spans Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, focusing not just on the characters but on the creators’ motivations.

“We wanted to show why these characters matter,” states Fournier, noting the film intentionally connects creators of different ages who share a common passion they are actively passing on.

The documentary introduces dynamic figures driving the current wave:

Bill Masuku (Captain South Africa), discussing the challenges and next chapters for African comic artists.

Jide Martin (Comic Republic), affirming the vision that Africa’s stories deserve a global stage.

South Africa’s Mohale Mashigo and the siblings behind Young Nelson, who aim to inspire local youth.

Don’t miss this story redefining heroism from Lagos to Cape Town. Children of Captain Africa airs Monday, 27 October 2025 at 19:20 CAT on TNT Africa.
