It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of renowned film producer, Andries (Andre) Scholtz, who peacefully passed away at his home in Cape Town on Monday, September 30, 2024. Andre’s remarkable career and contributions to the South African film industry have left an enduring legacy, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew and worked with him. He was 79 years old.

Born on April 9, 1945, in Koffiefontein, Free State, Andre was raised alongside his younger brother, Dawid. Their childhood adventures, from climbing trees in Chingola to exploring nightclubs in Durban, created lasting memories.

In 1981, Andre met the love of his life, Riana, while working on a film set. Their love story blossomed into a family of five children – Gertruida, Michael, Mara-lee, Dries, and Kristo. Andre was a devoted father, always there to support, guide, and understand his children. He was also a beloved grandfather to six granddaughters – Caitlyn, Oona, Aerin, Ciara, Grace, and Johanna – and recently welcomed his first grandson.
