ACTOM is making it easier for customers to see its products in action with a new Customer Experience Centre at its Knights facility in Boksburg, Johannesburg. The centre is designed to be a collaborative space where clients can get hands-on with operational, full-scale equipment and see how ACTOM’s technologies work together to solve real-world problems.
A hands-on look at ACTOM’s products
The centre showcases working examples of ACTOM’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) offerings, including medium voltage switchgear, distribution transformers, and protection and control systems. The equipment has been specially configured with cutaways and viewing windows to give you a clear look at its internal features and how it operates.
Johan Jordaan, Technology Development Specialist at ACTOM – MV Switchgear Division, explains, “The idea is to create an environment where clients can interact with real, working equipment in a way that builds an understanding of the technology and operating principles of the equipment.” This provides customers with a unique, first-hand experience of how ACTOM’s products function individually and as an integrated system.
More than a showroom
This isn’t just a place to look at products; it’s a space for learning and collaboration. The centre includes a fully equipped presentation and training room for technical walkthroughs, equipment demonstrations, and interactive workshops. Engineers can use the functional units to provide hands-on product training or work with clients to test pilot configurations.
“This is where we move from selling equipment to building relationships,” says Jordaan. “It is a collaborative space where we can explore challenges, demonstrate capabilities, and co-develop solutions that meet our customers’ unique requirements.”
Designed for a better customer experience
The centre was created to overcome the logistical challenges of transporting large demo equipment to exhibitions and to provide a more relaxed environment for clients. According to Jordaan, the new space “removes barriers to engagement.”
Instead of visiting a busy factory floor that requires safety gear and restricted access, clients can now get a full product experience in a professional, comfortable setting. While factory visits are still possible, this new centre offers a clear, distraction-free space to understand the technology before seeing it manufactured.
A new approach to customer-focused strategy
This Customer Experience Centre is the first of its kind for ACTOM’s T&D equipment and brings together contributions from several divisions. It represents a significant step in ACTOM’s shift towards a more integrated, client-focused strategy.
“This is not just a room full of products. It is a symbol of how we are evolving as a business by putting our customers at the centre of how we operate, design, and deliver,” Jordaan concludes.
The ACTOM Customer Experience Centre opened on July 11, 2025, and is now available to clients, partners, and stakeholders by appointment.
