Showmax gears up for a major relaunch in February 2024, marking a new era for the African streaming service.

Eight years after its debut in South Africa, Showmax is poised for its biggest transformation yet. In February 2024, the platform will unveil a fresh look, a revamped app, and a comprehensive suite of new offerings.

This significant overhaul comes on the heels of Showmax’s strategic partnership with international media giants Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky, announced earlier this year. The collaboration brings a wealth of resources and expertise to Showmax, empowering it to deliver an unparalleled streaming experience to African audiences.

Showmax’s new product lineup comprises three distinct plans:

  • Showmax Entertainment: A comprehensive entertainment package catering to diverse tastes, encompassing a vast library of movies, series, documentaries, and Showmax Originals.

Showmax Entertainment Mobile: A tailored mobile-centric offering designed for users on the go, providing access to Showmax’s entertainment library at an affordable price.

Showmax Premier League: The ultimate destination for football enthusiasts, offering exclusive live streams of every Premier League match, a first-of-its-kind mobile-only streaming service in Africa.

  • Powered by SuperSport, Showmax Premier League is set to revolutionize sports streaming on the continent, bringing the thrill of the world’s most popular football league to every corner of sub-Saharan Africa.

In anticipation of its relaunch, Showmax has unveiled a refreshed logo and brand identity, reflecting its dynamic and innovative spirit. “We’re thrilled to introduce the new Showmax,” says Showmax CEO Marc Jury. “We’ve assembled a powerful technology platform, crafted a bold brand that embodies our essence, and curated an unmatched content slate. No other streaming service in Africa can match what Showmax has in store for the new year.”

Showmax’s migration to the global Peacock streaming platform paves the way for seamless scalability and rapid growth. The robust platform, proven to handle massive live streams like the Super Bowl, will ensure that Showmax can meet the growing demands of African audiences.

Showmax is renowned for its pioneering approach to content creation, and it’s set to further expand its original content portfolio across Africa in preparation for the relaunch. This diverse lineup includes:

    – Twende: Showmax’s first 2D animation, following the adventures of an adorable pangolin who drives a boda-boda (motorbike taxi).

    – Adulting (Season 2): The return of the record-breaking bromance series, exploring the trials and tribulations of modern adulthood.

    – Kwa Mam’Mkhize (Season 2): The second season of the smash-hit reality series, delving into the lives of the wealthy and influential Mkhize family.

    – Wura (Season 2): The continuation of the popular Nigerian series, following the life of a young woman navigating love, loss, and ambition.

    – The Mommy Club Reunion: A nostalgic reunion of the cast, reminiscing about their experiences on the beloved South African sitcom.

    Additional upcoming releases include:

    – Convict Conman: A new true-crime series from the producers of hit shows like Devilsdorp, Rosemary’s Hitlist, and Steinheist.

    – Trompoppie: A murder mystery series set against the backdrop of the competitive world of high school drum majorettes.

    – Agu: A Nigerian legal drama exploring complex moral and ethical dilemmas.

    – School Run: The first Nigerian Original feature film, following the heartwarming story of a father’s determination to provide education for his children.

    – Sports Wives: A reality series offering a glimpse into the lives of the wives and partners of prominent African sports personalities.

Every Wednesday until December 27, Showmax will also release new episodes of Spinners, its groundbreaking CANAL+ co-production.

The new Comcast partnership guarantees Showmax an ongoing supply of top-tier international content, leveraging the vast library of Universal Pictures, NBC, Peacock, Sky, DreamWorks Animation, and Telemundo.

Viewers can expect a significant increase in international titles on Showmax in the new year. December’s lineup already boasts blockbusters like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Fast X, and the Emmy®-nominated Poker Face.

Showmax remains committed to its core mission of delivering exceptional entertainment to African audiences. With its strong track record, innovative approach, and expanding partnerships, Showmax is poised to become the undisputed leader in African streaming.
